Pilot in Leicester

Chosen by Terry Bates, managing director of denim brand Denham.

Having traded for 25 years as a fashion-forward indie in Leicester, Pilot merged its three stores in 2009 to create a one-stop shop for directional men’s and women’s wear. Set on three futuristic-themed floors complete with neon lights and flatscreen TVs, the conceptual store prides itself on its ability to provide forward-thinking fashion alongside a genuine knowledge of its customers’ needs. As a result, Pilot offers professional, yet exceptionally personal, service.

When its first store opened in 1984, Pilot used its position to push up-and-coming brands. It continues to reside at the forefront of cutting-edge fashion in the Midlands, stocking high-end labels such as Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith alongside names such as Arrogant Cat and Transit. The ground and first floors have contemporary and classic fashions while a unique ‘urban store’ in the basement features limited-edition sportswear. Add to this a transactional website and you can see how this store remains an innovative indie.
