Pippa Sandison

Owner of premium womenswear indie Boudoir Femme in Cambridge

Brands include American Vintage, By Malene Birger, Lama Peach and Myla

How is trade at the moment?

Steady. There’s been an extended impact from the season changeover this year because the weather hasn’t improved yet - normally trade has picked up by now.

Which spring 11 collections are selling well?

American Vintage as a casual layering brand has been great. We are also doing really well with YMC.

Do you buy any products that are solely UK manufactured?

Most of our products are from Europe, but we do have fantastic pieces like Melissa McArthur Jewellery, which is made in London.

How are you feeling about spring 11?

Quietly confident, but there’s more gloom around due to the Japanese earthquake and the impact that’s going to have on the world economy. It’s a huge disaster.

Do womenswear indies attract more older shoppers than high street stores?

Definitely. Our customers are in their 30s to 40s and are more comfortable with their individual style than younger shoppers.
