Psyche links up with college for diploma

Indie department store Psyche has teamed up with Middlesbrough College to create a diploma in fashion retail.

Premium retailer Psyche has enrolled six members of staff from its Middlesbrough store on the diploma, named Psyche Fashion Retail Diploma, which covers team management, visual merchandising and trend and fashion forecasting.

The 30-week course, which began on October 12, will run on Wednesdays at Middlesbrough College’s new site in Middlehaven. Every Wednesday, while staff are on the course, six Middlesbrough College students will work in Psyche to gain practical experience.

Psyche marketing manager Paolo Capaldi said: “The diploma is aimed at younger members of staff who will benefit from developing their skills.”

Graduates of the programme will be awarded an ABC Diploma in Fashion Retail Level 3. After the first year the diploma will be opened up to the public and possibly to other retailers, although it is unclear at this stage if the name of the diploma would include Psyche.

Wendy Hewitt, deputy director of service and retail at Middlesbrough College, said the diploma was a win-win situation for both the college and Psyche: “Students get training from Psyche and their staff gain qualifications.”
