Van Mildert crosses border into Scotland

Northeast mini-chain Van Mildert has stepped into Scottish territory for the first time with the acquisition of a Glasgow store.

The 5,337 sq ft store in the Silverburn shopping centre will open at the start of May.

It will be Van Mildert’s ninth store. The retailer already has stores in Gateshead’s MetroCentre, Durham, Darlington, Harrogate, York, Hull and Sheffield’s Meadowhall.

The stores stock a selection of premium and young fashion brands including Aquascutum, Lyle & Scott Vintage, Alice by Temperley, French Connection and Forever Unique.

Last year, retail entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter invested an undisclosed sum in Van Mildert. Hunter partnered Van Mildert as part of his rescue of designer indie mini-chain Cruise. The deal saw Van Mildert take control of all of Cruise’s buying.
