Independent mini-chain Van Mildert has celebrated the opening of its Harrogate menswear store.
The ground floor of the 2,000 sq ft store on Princes Street opened at the start of October, but the store’s full opening was in November.
The store, the retailer’s seventh, stocks brands including designer collections from Burberry and Vivienne Westwood, and young fashion brands Luke, One True Saxon, Pretty Green and Lyle & Scott. Owners and brothers Cyril and Eric Williams have invested £400,000 in the store.
The Harrogate store is the most southerly in Van Mildert’s portfolio, which comprises menswear stores in York, Darlington, Gateshead MetroCentre and Durham. It also has a womenswear store in Durham.
Van Mildert, which was named Independent Retailer of the Year, Menswear Retailer of the Year and Young Fashion Retailer of the Year at the Drapers Awards 2009, is part of the Delima Retail group, owned by the Williams brothers. Delima bought the indie, which was established in 1996, in 2007 and pushed the button on expansion.
Eric Williams said: “We want to expand Van Mildert, offering more people the boutique experience our customers elsewhere enjoy. In the past, people in Harrogate would have had to travel to Leeds and beyond to satisfy their needs. Now they have cutting-edge fashion on their doorstep.”
Cyril Williams said: “Since Delima bought Van Mildert in 2007, we’ve seen it grow. This will be our third new store and, in spite of the recession, people still want top-quality brands. Our customers are as passionate about fashion as we are.
“They don’t just want to own the latest pieces by the best designers, they want the bespoke customer service we provide.”
