Wolverine in first women’s link-up

New York designer Samantha Pleet has teamed up with footwear brand Wolverine to create its first women’s footwear collaboration.

Pleet, who sells her eponymous womenswear label through a variety of boutiques worldwide including premium womenswear indie The Moon and Mars in Edinburgh and online at Anthropologie.com, has never designed footwear before but has worked with Wolverine to produce a five-strong range of shoes and boots available in the UK for autumn 12. Wholesale prices range from £60.80 to £165.

So far, the Wolverine 1000 Mile by Samantha Pleet collection has been picked up by footwear indies Author in London and Jon Ian in Cowbridge, south Wales, and Brighton premium  indie Badger. It is also targeting designer boutiques such as Start and Matches.

Pleet explained that her inspiration for the range came from stories of famous female explorers and pioneers including aviator Amelia Earhart and pirate Anne Bonny.

“Working with Wolverine helped me understand what would work in terms of the technical aspects of footwear design,” she said. “We are working on a second collection.”

Wolverine Worldwide, the parent company behind footwear brands CAT and Sebago, has appointed a new Northern European sales director, Eliot Brown, for its lifestyle and heritage brands division.
