Who owns the high street: JD Sports Fashion

Includes Size?, Footpatrol, Tessuti, Mainline, Go Outdoors

Sports giant JD Sports Fashion commands a swathe of the UK high street, carving a niche in the worlds of sports and outdoor specialists. The group has more than 1,100 stores in the UK, including shoe fascia Size?, sneaker chain Footpatrol, menswear mini-chain Scotts and premium multi-brand store Tessuti, along with etailer Mainline. It has 369 JD Sports branches in the UK and Ireland. Outdoor specialists Ultimate Outdoors, Millets, Blacks and Go Outdoors are also part of the group.

Its reach stretches into Europe, where it operates French sports retailer Chausport, Iberian chains Sport Zone and Sprinter, and Dutch Perry Sport. Footwear and clothing distributor Focus International and football licensing business Source Lab are also part of the JD empire. And it bought a 15% stake in South Korean multi-brand footwear retailer Hot-T for £5.5m last September.

The group announced record profits in the six months to 29 July 2016, although the picture is not completely sunny. It will close footwear business Cloggs this month, following falling profits.
