A-Wear to lift UK profile with House of Fraser deal

Irish womenswear retailer A-Wear is to ramp up its UK presence, focusing on wholesale and a series of new concessions at House of Fraser.

Commercial manager Owen Mulholland told Drapers he had just concluded a deal with the department store chain to open 10 concessions in March and was now recruiting between 30 and 40 retail staff.

The business is also looking to secure between 60 and 70 wholesale accounts when it exhibits at trade show Pure London for the first time next month.

“We believe our price point fits in very well with the independent sector,” said Mulholland. “We are about to sign with a UK distributor to help us.”

Mulholland said he hoped to open a flagship on London’s Oxford Street in the medium term, as well as expand its presence in Northern Ireland, where it has one store at present.

“We have 29 stores in [the Republic of] Ireland - a country with a population the same size of Birmingham - so there is a limit to what else we can do here,” he said. “The UK has huge potential for us.”

A-Wear was acquired out of administration in February last year by private investment vehicle Latzur.
