Anthropologie launches footwear in UK

US womenswear and homewares retailer Anthropologie is set to launch its first European footwear department in its King’s Road store, London.

An 18sq m space devoted to footwear will open in the store in March, selling over 80 footwear styles including the retailer’s own-brand product as well as brands including Surface to Air, Robert Clergerie and Chie Mihara. Anthropologie, which already has a footwear offer in the US, will also add the footwear offer to its website at the same time.

The footwear space will have its own street entrance, although it can be accessed through the Anthopologie store, and is designed to feel like a sitting room with rugs and custom upholstered furniture.

Anthropologie global co-president Wendy Wurtzburger said: “We hope the shoe assortment will be one of the more passion provoking parts of the experience, introducing her [the Anthropologie customer] to a varied and extraordinary array of designers and styles.”

The retailer said it was unsure if it would roll-out footwear departments across its UK stores at this stage.

I've always thought their footwear buy was execellent and wondered why they didn't stock it in the UK, as I reckon it would do very well here.
