Armani to design 2012 kit for Team Italy

Designer Giorgio Armani has been selected to dress the Italian team at next summer’s London Olympic Games.

It is thought that the designer’s sportswear line EA7 will create the team’s performance uniforms. Further details are expected to be unveiled next week.

Armani is the third designer signed up to outfit competitors for the Games. Cedella Marley, the fashion designer daughter of Bob Marley, will dress the Jamaican team and Stella McCartney will provide the kit for Team GB.

Fusing fashion with sport is nothing new for Armani, who part owns Milan’s basketball team Olimpia Milano.

For the 2008 Games in Beijing Italy wore Italian brand Freddy.
