Chilly weather helps John Lewis sales rise

Fashion sales soared 13.9% at John Lewis last week as the cooler blast of weather drove shoppers into store.

Overall sales at John Lewis jumped 14.2% in the week to September 22 as the majority of branches saw a year-on-year sales increase. Recently refurbished branches such as Norwich and Reading performed particularly well with sales up 22.4% and 15.2% respectively.

Head of omni channel development Karen Dracou said: The first signs of autumn helped sashion deliver sales at 13.9% ahead of last year. ‘Somerset’ by Alice Temperley continues to delight our customers and new lines will arrive in the coming weeks. The back to school trade continues to contribute to strong childrenswear sales at 17.1% up against last year.”

Online John Lewis reported a 39.8% rise as cooler weather saw a strong switch into autumn seasonal product lines across women’s outwear, men’s knitwear and outerwear, gloves and the boot brand Ugg.
