Festive knitwear is proving more popular than ever before with sales of Christmas jumpers soaring at John Lewis.
At the department store chain sales of women’s knitwear has doubled year-on-year with slim fitting cashmere styles in bright jewel tones such as emerald green and amethyst the most popular.
On menswear chunky knits in traditional colours are the preferred choice with knitwear sales rising 55% week-on-week for the week ending December 9. A grey shawl neck jumper from the Paul Costelloe for John Lewis was a huge favourite among male shoppers with sales rising 225% week-on-week.
Director of buying, fashion at John Lewis Matt McCormack said: “We have definitely noticed an increase in the popularity of the Christmas jumper this year, with the Fair Isle proving the most sought after design. The Fair Isle knit has become the season’s must-have ever since Sarah Lund wore her burgundy version in The Killing and is now the Christmas jumper choice for all discerning fashionistas.”
