Derek Lovelock joins Mamas & Papas as interim chief executive

Aurora Fashions’ former chairman Derek Lovelock has been appointed interim chief executive of maternity specialist Mamas & Papas.

Lovelock, a womenswear veteran who picked up the Lifetime Achievement award at last year’s Drapers Awards following a career in the industry spanning more than 40 years, takes up the role with immediate effect. The position of chief executive is a new role for the company.

Lovelock stepped down as chairman of Karen Millen and Aurora Fashions, which owns Coast, Oasis and Warehouse, in May, having taken up the role in 2009.

The appointment comes after private equity firm BlueGem took a majority stake in Mamas & Papas last month.

Lovelock said: “When I left Aurora I knew I wanted to find a role working with a strong brand and gifted team, and also a role that would challenge me. This fits that criteria perfectly.”

Mamas & Papas chairman David Scacchetti said: “I’m delighted Derek is joining us. He brings a wealth of retail experience in general and also has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the nursery market. His expertise will be a huge asset to us as we draw up plans for the future that will help us to accelerate our global expansion ambitions.”
