Exclusive: Overseas wholesale is a ‘big opportunity’ for Dune

The Dune Group is eyeing a “big opportunity” to expand its international wholesale business, with the US and Germany its priorities.

Executive chairman Daniel Rubin told Drapers the footwear group, which owns the Bertie, Dune and Pied a Terre fascias, would target US department stores including Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Nordstrom with its wholesale ranges.

It has already struck a deal to roll out into German department store chain Karstadt via concessions, with Rubin plotting further wholesale accounts in Germany further down the line.

It already has an international presence via franchise partners in locations including Dubai, Kuwait and Moscow.

Dune’s website –, which at the end of this month will bring all three fascias together – will be launched locally in France, Germany and the US over the next year.

Rubin said the group had been “influenced a little bit by working with Steve Madden”, the US women’s footwear brand it distributes in the UK.

“[Steve Madden] is 75% wholesale and 25% retail and it has made us realise there is a big opportunity for us with wholesale internationally,” Rubin added.
