Fabrics are a snip at T1 Textiles

A fabric supplier to the UK high street has opened a store selling smaller cuts to emerging designers who cannot meet minimum orders from larger textile mills.

T1 Textiles, which is based on Tabernacle Street, east London, supplies fabric to high street retailers including French Connection, Karen Millen, Reiss and Topshop and to designers such as Paul Smith and Victoria Beckham.

The fabric shop has been launched in response to demand from students and up-and-coming designers at
textile fairs.

T1 managing director Lee Taylor said: “We saw a gap in the market. Although there are competitors doing the same thing, they have shops in expensive locations so the fabric is still relatively expensive to buy. By opening alongside our showroom in east London we can keep costs low.”

Prices for fabric at the T1 Textiles shop range from £8 per metre for shirting fabric and linens, and up to £60 for heavy tweeds and 100% silk jacquards.
