Fashion leads performance at John Lewis

Fashion sales at John Lewis rose 42% year-on-year in the week to February 6, its strongest growth in two years.

The retailer said sales were boosted by weak comparitives from last year when heavy snow hit most of the country.

Total sales across the department store during the week rose 31.9%.

The retailer said that new fashion brands and new season stock were the main drivers behind the strong performance from fashion, while lingerie benefitted from the approach of Valentine’s Day.

Online sales were up 47.6%.

All but four of John Lewis’ 28 branches recorded double digit increases - with Milton Keynes leading the way with a 60% rise - and the sales were also 9.3% up on two years ago.
