High Street Hit or Miss: Aldo 7/10

Aldo autumn 15

Aldo autumn 15

Aldo autumn 15

Footwear specialist - Westfield Stratford, First floor

Pros

Aldo meets all the important trends of the season – including 1970s, lace-up, chunky heels and red wine tones – with some thoughtful and easily wearable detailing. For example, a pair of tan knee-high leather boots with a gold stacked heel are priced at £140. Ankle boots in taupe and black leather with fringing set through metal eyelets at £100 are pricier than others on the high street, but the soft leather goes some way to make it feel justified. The men’s section is surprisingly big, taking up around 40% of the store with smart to casual shoes at between £80 and £120, and boots from £100 to £230. The sales assistant is particularly friendly and eager to help, which makes a refreshing change from many of the other stores Drapers visits.

Cons

Aldo has a solid collection at reasonable price points, but it contains few truly attention-grabbing styles to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.
