High Street Hit or Miss: AllSaints 8/10

AllSaints autumn 15

AllSaints autumn 15

AllSaints autumn 15

Premium - Westfield Stratford, ground floor

Pros

Kind of like the rock ‘n’ roll (but equally well executed and high-quality) brother to other premium retailers, AllSaints is doing a good job of evolving beyond what customers expect – catering for both loyal and new shoppers. Known for its leather, this season signature bikers are joined by interesting pieces like a suede shacket (a shirt and jacket hybrid). Outerwear is strong as classic tailored designs are tweaked, such as statement oversized lapels on double-breasted Crombies or a cosy camouflage wool parka – a nice new take on the trend. However, knitwear is the winner, with some unique items that mix interesting knitting techniques in soft, chunky fibres that feel like investment pieces and worth their £100-plus price. Friendly staff were helpful.

Cons

While certain categories are executed really well, I struggled to find a shirt or trouser that stood out or justified the punchier prices. A basic T-shirt for £28 is OK value, but £79 for a basic hoodie seems a little steep. Despite the retailer’s grungy focus, the offer would benefit from some more colour.
