The double windows are inviting, displaying ankle boots with the tagline “Cherish our boots, love our craft”. Men’s plays on its 190-year heritage with archive material and classic styles on display. Unlike many other specialists, Clarks has a fully dressed female mannequin to show how the boots can be worn.
A women’s black leather ankle boot with Cushion Soft layers under the foot feels good value at £65, while the Narrative collection includes a patent leather loafer with tassels and Cushion Plus technology at £70 – on-trend yet comfortable. Men’s value-added technologies are well signposted and brogues, loafers and desert boots are strong. Clarks has half-sizes, as well as wide and narrow fits.
While Clarks’ stylish yet practical messaging comes across well in store, younger customers might not be there in the first place to see it. A large kids’ section at the back may put shoppers off browsing in busy periods, as it is already noisy at off-peak times.
