In the final instalment of our autumn 15 high street review, we put footwear under scrutiny
We round off the autumn 15 edition of our high street surveys with an in-depth analysis of the footwear retailers at London’s Westfield Stratford City. In the third and final instalment, we take an undercover walk in shopper’s shoes to find out who got it right and who tripped up this season.
We divide the 18 stores at Westfield into footwear specialists and clothing multiples with a footwear offer, judging the new-season collections alongside the overall shopping experience.
Points were awarded for customer service, visual merchandising, strength of product offer and value for money, balancing quality, fit, fabric and finish with relevant or competitive price points.
In general, the specialists do more to prove their worth, combining increased personal service with product that shouts about its special features. However, competition from clothing multiples in terms of range, price and availability is never far away. Stores were visited on October 29-30.
