Footwear specialist - Westfield Stratford, Ground floor

Pros

Jones Bootmaker feels like a footwear specialist with helpful staff, well-targeted product and lots of accompanying shoe care equipment, such as polish, brushes and shoe trees. There is a fairly even split between men’s and women’s styles, which is unusual compared with many stores, and the men’s department feels particularly strong. Jones Bootmaker is holding a mid-season Sale when Drapers visits, employing the typically French system of colour coding to reflect the discounts of 20%, 30% and 40% off selected lines of mainly its own product, which feels organised. It is a wide, open store with plenty of seating.

Cons

The men’s collection of brands, including Loake, Barker, Ted Baker, Barbour and Jeffery West, seems stronger than the women’s, although there was a good showing from mainstream family favourites such as Gabor and Clarks.
