In the first instalment of our autumn 15 high street review, Drapers gives men’s retailers a thorough once-over.
We kick off the autumn 15 edition of our high street Hit or Miss survey with an in-depth shopping analysis of the menswear retailers at London’s Westfield Stratford City.
As a secret shopper, Drapers split the 21 stores into industry sectors (see below), focusing on the biggest premium, value, mainstream and young fashion retailers, and judged the new season ranges and the whole shopping experience.
Points can be won on aspects including customer service, visual merchandising, strength of product offer and value for money, balancing quality, fit, fabric and finish withrelevant or competitive price points.
In terms of product, it was good to see some retailers producing wide-ranging collections full of covetable items that will inspire shoppers to spend. The best ranges did nod to trends in a way that was appropriate and appealing to their core customer, but also created a unique point of view thanks to collections full of special items that will make customers pick that store over its competitors. However, few retailers did enough to stand out or produce clothes that can’t be found better elsewhere.
