High Street Hit or Miss: Russell & Bromley 8/10

Russell & Bromley autumn 15

Russell & Bromley autumn 15

Footwear specialist - Westfield Stratford, Ground floor

Pros

Product is grouped into style “families” in the windows, with prices clearly labelled, supported by cardboard stands showing Russell & Bromley’s ad campaigns from various glossy magazines. There are many classic styles on offer in traditional colours of black, navy, tan and brown, but there are nods to seasonal trends such as a range of luxury sneakers (£245) in snakeskin-printed leather or black printed suede, or a tasselled loafer in green tweed fabric with brown leather (£175). The sales assistant is immediately on hand and consultative to establish what I’m looking for, before suggesting the weather-resistant suede Aquatalia ankle boots with a small heel. Priced at £275, these seem like good value for money thanks to the luxurious feel and easy care qualities. She brings smaller and bigger sizes, as well as a selection of bags for me to try too.

Cons

Prices are high, but the message comes across that you get what you pay for. Designs may be a little too conservative for some and branding on some styles (such as tabs on the back of heels or sides) feels a little unnecessary.
