High Street Hit or Miss: Topman 9/10

Topman autumn 15

Topman autumn 15

Westfield Stratford, first floor

Pros

While other young fashion retailers have merely reproduced the key trend items of the season, Topman has its own point of view. The offer is wide and varied, with several different options of key trend pieces (parkas, bomber jackets and camel overcoats) that offer fresh, fashion-focused style, perfect for its adventurous shoppers. Upon entering the menswear area, customers find a wide range of denim – the first I see is a directional flared shape (£38), alongside wide-leg cropped styles (£38), dungarees (£65) and even a denim boiler suit (£80). On top of the standard range of skinny fits, this is the broadest and most interesting denim range I saw and sets Topman apart.

Cons

Some rails are too crowded with product, and when several different styles are hung on forward-facing rails, the product at the back gets lost. The focus on slim and skinny, from denim through to tailoring, means there isn’t much on offer for someone not wanting a slim fit.
