High Street Hit or Miss: Topshop/Topman 6/10

Pros

Topshop’s footwear department strikes the right balance between being a place to pick up shoes to match an outfit you are about to buy and somewhere you would go on a dedicated shoe-buying mission, thanks to its affordable price and high style proposition. Covetable styles this season include rose gold fringed strappy sandals at a reasonable £56, while burgundy leather heeled boots at £45 are particularly good value. Its offer is boosted by an Office concession, which also gives its own collections more depth. Topman has desert shoes and boots from £36 to £40 by the till aside from its full footwear department, which, while not huge, presents the key trends of the season. These include a particularly chunky pair of leather fringe loafers priced at a reasonable £55.

Cons

There are only a few sizes on display in each department but a shortage of staff means a long wait, during which customers could lose interest.
