High Street Hit or Miss: Zara 8/10

Zara autumn 15

Zara autumn 15

Zara autumn 15

Westfield Stratford, first floor

Pros

Zara has a strong point of view and an often premium-feeling offer for autumn, encompassing the key trends but sometimes in a unique way. There are also lots of pieces that balance a decent level of quality with reasonable prices, such as a £79.99 pure cashmere jumper (£89.90 at Uniqlo), a real leather bomber (£149) and a leather trench coat (£169), which could compete with the premium retailers. Updates to classic items give a unique twist, such as longline bomber jackets in cotton, nylon or leather, rubberised rain coats and classic Crombies worked in textured wools or tweaked with modern zip details.

Cons

Considering the varied product on offer, the simple windows and dull, all-black mannequin outfits are uninspiring. I spotted a pair of shoes and a jumper on a shop floor mannequin but neither product was on the floor, although two helpful shop assistants retrieved them from the store room. Changing rooms were full of litter, but manned by two shop assistants.
