JD Sports posts rise in third quarter sales

Sportswear chain JD Sports Fashion has reported a rise in sales across its fashion and sportswear fascias during the third quarter of the year.

The group, owner of mini-chain Ark and young fashion retailer Bank, said today that like-for-like sales for its fascias stood at “very much the same level” as the 5.8% increase it recorded for the six months to August 3.

A company statement read: “We are pleased to report that after a further 16 weeks’ trading, the like-for-like sales improvement for these fascias stands cumulatively at very much the same level. We are also pleased with very recent progress in the outdoor fascias.

The result for the full year remains, as usual, substantially dependent on the sales and margin performance through the Christmas period and particularly in the last two weeks of December.”

The owner of Blacks also said the board believes the group remains on course to deliver earnings at least in line with current expectations.

The group will issue its post Christmas trading update on 10 January 2013.
