Fashion sales continued to grow at John Lewis last week as cooler weather encouraged people to buy winter clothing.
Sales across John Lewis’ fashion department rose by 12.7% in the week to October 13 as overall sales at the department store chain grew by 8.6% compared to last year.
Susan Young, head of merchandising for central operations at John Lewis, said: “Fashion led the directorates with the best year-on-year growth at 12.7 per cent. All buying groups were up but the most notable result was in Menswear at +19.5% against last year, with branded casualwear up 36%.”
She added: “With the cooler weather encouraging people to buy winter clothing, outerwear categories were significantly up on last year.”
Online sales accounted for a quarter of trade, with click and collect 77% up on last year and total online sales up 23.2%.
Sales increased in 29 of the John Lewis stores with Poole leading the way with a 19.7% rise.
