John Lewis’ Matt McCormack heads back to Australia

Matt McCormack, John Lewis’s buying director for fashion, will step down this Friday (19 July) and return to his native Australia to run denim retailer Just Jeans.

McCormack, who was promoted to buying director this year after acting in the role for a year, joined John Lewis in 2009 as head of buying for menswear. He previously spent two years at House of Fraser and eight months at menswear retailer Moss Bros.

In a statement sent to Drapers, John Lewis said that Paula Nickolds, who will take up her new role as buying and brand director from September after the departure of Peter Ruis, “will be able to confirm future plans for her team”.

Just Jeans has over 246 stores across every state and territory in Australia and in New Zealand.

  • This is really sad news for John Lewis. Matt was responsible for some great things during his time with the retailer.
