John Lewis mid-week sales up 12%

John Lewis has reported sales up 12% from Sunday to Wednesday this week, with trade strong across several categories including fashion.

Key highlights included Cath Kidston robes, with the ‘roses’ pattern being the best seller. Sales of this product increased 300% on last year and 42% on last week.

Within boyswear, its two-pack reindeer pyjamas in red were up 27% on last week.

As the weather has got colder, sales of men’s accessories rose 32%. Last week it sold one cashmere beanie every 10 minutes.

Nat Wakely, selling operations director, said: “We have seen another double-digit increase at +12% for the first half of this week, spread evenly across home, fashion and electrical merchandise. Every shop has put on a strong performance so far and online is continuing to storm ahead. Top branches this week to date are Oxford Street, Peter Jones, Peterborough and Cambridge.”
