John Lewis posts growth in fashion sales

Fashion sales grew 5.6% at John Lewis last week with the department store’s womenswear offering a standout category.

Total sales at the retailer rose 11.4% in the week to November 10 as online sales soared 37.5% compared to last year.

Head of omnichannel development Karen Dracou said: “Within fashion, sales of womenswear stood out as our branded offer performed strongly.

Barbour across the board continues to be the highlight but contemporary brands such as Mint Velvet and Whistles continue to fly.”

She added: “Autumn/winter products across the rest of fashion continue to perform above the year but slowed as the temperature rose at the tail end of the week. Anything with a reindeer on it appears to be selling well in menswear.”

Across its store portfolio the majority of brands outperformed last year with Swindon and Croydon leading the way with stand-out sales of around 18% up on last year.
