John Lewis to open Oxford store

John Lewis is to open a new 100,000 sq ft, three floor department store at Oxford’s Westgate Centre.

The “flexible format” store will anchor a new development adjoining the Westgate Centre, which is joint venture between Land Securities Group and the Crown Estate.

The new store will highlight fashion, home and consumer electronics in a “contemporary setting”, according to John Lewis. It will also feature computer terminals in-store to allow shoppers to access John Lewis’s online offer, and order for home delivery or next day collection.

Andy Street, managing director at John Lewis, said: “Oxford has long been a sought after location for us and we’re delighted to be able to expand our reach to customers across the region for the first time.”

Richard Akers, spokesman for the Westgate Oxford Alliance, said the signing enabled the team to “press ahead” with a planning application for the scheme.
