John Lewis weekly fashion sales rise 11.2%

Fashion sales were up 11.2% at John Lewis last week, reflecting strong demand for boys’ clothes, men’s formal wear and jewellery.

During the week to July 24, sales of boyswear rose 25.2%, men’s formalwear was up 28.9%, men’s own-brand casualwear rose 24.4%, men’s footwear sales soared 22.2%, beauty increased 22.9% and jewellery rose 23.9%.

Total sales at the department store chain over the week rose 8.2% to £52.6m.

The Bluewater shop delivered the chain’s biggest sales rise – it was up 19.7% - driven by strong sales from womenswear, women’s accessories and beauty, menswear and sports. Fashion sales at the store rose 22%.

Online sales climbed 16.6%.
