Mango delivers 9% rise in sales and profits

Mango delivered a 9% rise in both revenues and profits over the last year as the chain expanded its retail space.

Turnover rose to €1.85bn (£1.53bn), while profits increased to €120.5m (£99.8m) during the 2013 calendar year. Just 17% of sales were generated by its domestic Spanish market with 83% coming from outside the country.

It did not break out UK sales.

The retailer created an additional 538,195 sq ft of selling space, finishing the year with 6.46m sq ft worldwide across 2,700 stores. During the year Mango also created 1,200 jobs and now has 13,000 employees. It plans to enlarge its workforce by more than 2,000 employees by the end of the year.

Online sales reached €124m (£102.7m), representing 6.7% of total company turnover, a 77% increase on last year. The retailer now sells online across 64 countries and plans to expand online into Australia and several Central and South American countries during 2014.
