Marks & Spencer makes board appointment

Marks & Spencer has appointed Andy Halford to the board as a non-executive director.

Halford, who is chief financial officer of Vodafone Group, will take up the position from January 1 next year. He will join both the Nomination and Audit Committees at M&S.

Jeremy Darroch, who has served on the board and as chairman of the Audit Committee since February 2006, will leave the board in June 2013.  Halford will succeed Darroch as chairman of the Audit Committee from that date.

Robert Swannell, chairman of M&S, said: “I am delighted to welcome Andy to the board.  As well as his finance background, he brings valuable international, consumer and digital experience and will be an excellent appointment as chairman of the Audit Committee following Jeremy’s retirement from the Board next year.”
