Matalan to launch in-house training

Value fashion retailer Matalan is launching a bespoke training scheme to ensure all its retail managers reach its standard.

The first five to eight-week Store of Learning programme for retail managers will take place at Matalan’s store in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, from September 21. Training will be tailored to the individual, covering all aspects of the job as well as the values of the company.

The training will be delivered by Matalan employees, with a combination of real shopfloor experience and classroom-based tuition. New staff, promoted employees and those in need of extra training will benefit from the scheme.

Retail director Mike Jeans said the ultimate aim was to improve the customer’s experience in store.

Matalan’s stores in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent and Colindale, north London, will be the second and third stores to host the training.
