M&Co, the value retailer, reported like-for-like sales rose 11.1% for the nine weeks to January 2, driven by a strong consumer reaction to its revamped womenswear range.
M&Co, which has almost 300 UK stores and a transactional website, said online growth was particularly strong over the period, with revenue up just over 100% on the previous year.
Iain McGeoch, chairman of Mackays Stores, which trades as M&Co, said: “This has been an exceptional Christmas for M&Co, with growing sales and profitability in the face of difficult market conditions. The new, younger and more trend-led feel to our ladieswear range is proving to be a huge hit with our current customers as well as enticing new M&Co shoppers through our doors and onto our shopping site.
He added: “We remain positive for 2010 and beyond, as we believe our commitment to provide quality fashion for all the family at exceptional prices leaves us well positioned to continue to build upon our success.”
