Fashion sales at John Lewis grew 2% last week as menswear and sportswear shot up 10.5%.
John Lewis’ men’s own brand soared, with sales rising by 34.4%, while men’s accessories and men’s shoes saw increases of 15.3% and 13.4% respectively thanks to the introduction of new collections.
Women’s accessories and beauty delivered a 5.2% uplift, with handbags proving particularly popular.
Across the whole department store chain, total sales rose 8.3% in the week to February 16.
David Barford, director of selling operations for Region B at John Lewis, said: “It was a mixed bag of events this week with snow affecting some areas in the first part of the week and half term falling a week later this year in the southeast of England.”
Chester was the top performing store for the retailer, with sales up 24.9%. Other high performers included Swindon up 14.4%, Edinburgh up 11.2%, Leicester up 9.8% and Oxford Street up 9.7%, with 18 of the 35 branches having an increase on last year.
Sales at johnlewis.com continued to rise delivering a 30.4% increase.
