Bluewater shopping centre records 6.7% sales rise

Kent shopping centre Bluewater posted a 6.7% rise in sales across its retailers in February as menswear drove growth.

Menswear sales shot up by 16% compared to the same month last year, while kidswear sales rose 13%.

Footfall also grew by 4.6% compared to the same month last year.

Bluewater’s sales growth outstripped the increase delivered across the whole of the retail sector in February. Earlier this month the BRC-KPMG Retail Sales Monitor reported that general UK retail sales rose 2.7% on a like-for-like basis while total sales were up 4.4%

This news precedes a raft of openings scheduled at the shopping centre in the next few weeks. Superdry will open a 12,000 sq ft “statement store” on March 23, while lingerie retailer Triumph will open its first south-eastern standalone store on March 28.

Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s general manager, said: “Bluewater’s momentum in 2013 continues, driven by the quality of our offer, the breadth of catering and ease of access.”
