Footwear trade show Micam experienced a rise in the number of private-sale website buyers, but UK independents were thin on the ground.
Buyers from Cocosa, Brand Alley and Secretsales attended the show, which ran from September 18 to 21 at the Fiera Milano exhibition centre in Milan. Buyers for the branded section of New Look’s website, which includes Emu Australia and Head Over Heels by Dune, were also there.
UK exhibitors said Micam was now almost solely about attracting international business rather than signing up UK retailers and indies.
Yum Yum Shoes sales agent Lee Davies told Drapers that Micam was being attended more frequently by off-price buyers from the UK, while many of the mainstream UK buyers had completed most of their purchasing for the season by the time the show started.
He added: “It is more about meeting international buyers and obviously there are some of the discount buyers looking to sign up brands.”
Frank Wright brand manager Alasdair Gorrod said: “If UK buyers come to my stand and see things they haven’t seen already then, frankly, I haven’t been doing my job properly. I am here to grow the brand internationally.”
