New George at Asda MD to push online

Newly promoted George at Asda managing director Andrew Moore is expected to drive multichannel and international growth at the supermarket brand when he takes up his position next month.

Moore, who was promoted from supply and merchandising director following the resignation of Anthony Thompson in January, played a key role in drawing up the strategy for George with Thompson.

A source close to Moore said: “George is now on to its next phase of development and that includes global growth, pushing dotcom and ensuring that value for money is kept at the heart of the business.”

The source added that George’s growth would be accelerated by the roll out of Asda’s clothing and homeware fascia Asda Living.

Moore, who spent 25 years at M&S before joining George in 2008, is known for being a strong merchandiser and detailed strategist.
