Organiser denies CPD axe rumours

Mainstream womenswear show CPD reported a 2% rise in visitor numbers for this February’s edition compared with February 2009, as its organiser Igedo denied the exhibition is at risk of being cancelled next season.

The event, which also showcases accessories, took place in Düsseldorf on February 7-9 and pulled in 20,000 visitors and 519 exhibitors.

At last February’s event it attracted 19,600 visitors and at the spring 10 edition held in July 2009 there were 18,700 visitors.

Philipp Kronen, managing director of organiser Igedo, denied rumours that CPD was on the verge of being axed next season. He added: “The rumours as to the future of CPD triggered a huge wave of solidarity among exhibitors, which shows that CPD is and will be a fixture in Düsseldorf.”

Brenda Muir, owner of womenswear indie Brenda Muir in Glasgow, which sells brands including Evelin Brandt and Bitte Kai Rand, said: “The show was fine, but it wasn’t busy enough and was missing some of the key exhibitors.”
