Radley founder returns to the board

Radley founder Lowell Harder is the latest name to rejoin the premium handbag and accessories brand, following the return of its former chief executive Roger Best last month.

Harder, who founded the brand in 1998, will take on a role as a non-executive director and consultant, as the brand seeks to move more upmarket.

Best, who returned to Radley as chairman and interim chief executive in January after retiring in 2009 from his previous chief executive role, said: “She has a knowledge of the brand and leather and handbags that is second to none. She and I both wanted to come back and get Radley back in the right direction.”

The brand recently made changes to its distribution network to focus on its own stores and key retail partnerships such as House of Fraser, John Lewis and premium independents. As part of this strategy, from autumn 12 onwards the Radley collection will no longer be available in department store chain Debenhams.
