Scavazza appointed M&Co buying boss

Young fashion guru Sim Scavazza has made a surprise move to join value retailer M&Co as buying director.

She will take over the board-level position in October and replaces Louise Koser, who is leaving to become managing director of off-price furniture retailer HomeSense, sister chain to TK Maxx.

Scavazza has a track record in young fashion whereas M&Co generally targets an older demographic, but an M&Co spokeswoman said her role did not signal a strategy change.

Scavazza started as a buyer at River Island and spent seven years at Arcadia Group-owned Miss Selfridge. In 2007 she joined ethical etailer Adili [since rebranded to Ascension] as executive creative director and has worked as a consultant since leaving in March 2009.

Verdict Research analyst Maureen Hinton said. “If [Scavazza] uses her experience, it could differentiate the range and give it a unique look.”
