Bluewater reported a 2% rise in footfall over the weekend as 330,000 visitors flocked to the Kent shopping centre.
Partywear and outwear were strong sellers from Friday (November 23) to Sunday, with accessories retailers also experiencing a positive weekend.
Robert Goodman, Bluewater’s general manager, said: “This weekend has been a very good start to the season as guests begin their Christmas shopping in earnest, boosted by the Black Friday promotions from technology retailers in particular.
“With Christmas falling on a Tuesday, guests are definitely planning ahead as many will be working right until the last minute. Consequently, we expect to see four weekends in a row of very strong performance.”
Karen Lord, managing director of John Lewis Bluewater, said she was particularly pleased with “strong sales and high footfall” over the weekend.
Bluewater was not the only shopping location to benefit from the weekend after Black Friday, with retailers in London’s West End taking £20m in the first three hours of this year’s annual traffic-free shopping event on Oxford Street and Regent Street.
