Selfridges' Anita Barr switches to menswear role

Selfridges director of womenswear Anita Barr is to return to her menswear roots after being appointed director of menswear at the iconic department store chain.

Barr, who has been director of womenswear and kidswear at Selfridges since 2008, and who was previously buying manager for men’s contemporary for the Superbrands and Spirit departments at the store group, will take on the role vacated by David Walker-Smith, who was promoted to buying director of menswear, beauty, and home and leisure in January. She will report in to him.

Barr joined Selfridges in 2000 as senior buyer of men’s contemporary for Spirit and sports and prior to that worked at Harrods as a buyer for its Way-in department in men’s, women’s and denim collections.

Selfridges has kicked off a recruitment process for a replacement head of womenswear who will report in to buying director, womenswear, accessories and kidswear, Sebastian Manes.
