Urban Outfitters plots smaller store formats

Young fashion chain Urban Outfitters is to open smaller format stores as part of plans to grow its UK retail portfolio by a third by the end of this year.

The retailer, which has 12 UK stores, will open stores in Cardiff and Spitalfields in east London set over one floor rather than the usual two or three-floor layout. Two more stores will open in Bath and in Brighton’s Churchill Square shopping centre. The dates for the openings are unclear.

Urban Outfitters is also in negotiations to sign a further two stores in undisclosed locations.

The chain’s US parent company this week reported like-for-like sales growth across the business of 11% in the three months to July 31.
