John Lewis has reported a subdued week in the seven days to November 6, following a strong half term.
Mid-week sales were impacted by the London Tube strikes and the warmer weather.
Sales rose 5.4% to £68.99m during the week and online sales rose 36%.
The department store said that its customers had begun their Christmas buying. Accessories, menswear and kidswear were the strongest performers in fashion, which notched up an 8% rise in sales during the week. The retailer’s Christmas advert launched on YouTube today and on television tomorrow.
John Lewis added that its shoppers were “responding well” to the convenience of its multi-channel offer with sales at its in store kiosks double that recorded two weeks ago.
The retailer said it was in “great shape to take advantage of a cooler forecast” this week.
