Wedding gives stores a royal opportunity

Harrods has commissioned luxury brands Missoni and Matthew Williamson to design tiered wedding cakes for a royal wedding-themed window display, as retailers capitalise on the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton tomorrow.

Department store chain John Lewis, womenswear chain Oasis and women’s lifestyle retailer Oliver Bonas have created street party-inspired window displays, while womenswear chain Wallis has bunting in all stores and will hand out royal wedding-themed cookies to customers at its top seven stores.

Women’s fashion and footwear chain LK Bennett has installed a 3D sketch of Buckingham Palace in 11 of its stores and Selfridges has put mannequins wearing royal family face masks in one of the windows of its London store.

Debenhams staff will wear hats for the day, wedding music will play in stores and there will be a 20% discount on occasionwear.

Marks & Spencer is running an in-store campaign focusing on the celebrations, with promotions including 20% off women’s accessories, knitwear and dresses. Arcadia’s Bhs chain will discount selected lines by 20% over the weekend.
