New Look, 188-191 Western Road

Great product and great prices confirm New Look’s position as value market leader.

Looks 8½

Purple suede cage heels jostle for attention with metallic grey and purple brocade courts. Shoe boots with cleated soles sit next to caramel suede wedges and winklepicker flat shoes with buckle detailing. A clog boot is directional.

Experience 6

New Look leads the way in clever footwear retailing, as no other non-specialist visited merchandised footwear among its clothing offer. However, footwear styles at the store’s entrance should be more directional, as opposed to a classic Ugg boot interpretation. In addition, better signage is needed to alert shoppers to the scale of the store’s footwear offer, which is in the basement. No assistance was offered on the footwear shopfloor, and finding the exit was difficult.

Value 9

New Look is renowned for good value and has proved why once again this season. A fantastic pair of coral lace-up brogues are £19.99, bling frosted flats look interesting for £19.99 but plainer flats are too expensive at £16.99.

Claret heeled loafers are on trend and the right price at £22.99, although shoe boots seem a tad expensive at £44.99. A fold-down military boot is a steal at £28. A caramel suede wedge is a spring carry-over and still a steal at £20.
